Yesterday I spent about two hours recording the Mwembe choir on my computer. We started the afternoon program late because of this, but I am pleased with the final product. I stayed up late editing some of the audio tracks and producing a final CD. They are so happy. Being recorded and having a CD is a huge deal to them. They practiced for hours in preparation. I hope that they are able to make duplicates of the CD in Same. Between the afternoon and evening program we ate at Meshachs house. The food was good (rice beans, banana, watermelon, roasted corn, avocado, and some greens.) Here i usually serve myself first before the others get there food. I usually try to not serve myself the greens because they can be gritty at times from dirt. They always seem to notice though and insist that I eat some greens. We had a good time conversing with Meshach, and before we left pastor Reuban came back from Same where he had been for a few days. In the evening I preached on death. Jackson really preached hard and seemed to bring me along with him. He might have sensed that I was tired. The people seemed to respond well. Today is the day for prayer and fasting. We met this morning at a little after 5:00 for prayer. At 9:00 a group of us met to hike up a hill/little mountain to pray. It was a 30 minute hike up a steep hill in the hot sun, but the view and the breeze were rewarding. After I spoke a few words and we had a short time of prayer Jackson, Jacobo, and I headed back down the mountain while the rest of the group stayed. We made it to Mwerera by 10:30 (the land rover took us from Mwembe), we were supposed to be there at 10:00. Not too big of a deal here. This morning I was praying about what I should preach on in Mwerera. I felt impressed that I should preach on worry and Phil 4:6-7. Before I got up to preach, I asked the Lord to send some clouds because the sun was really beating down on us and the church has no roof. The Lord sent some cloud cover just about the time I got up to preach and the sun came out in full glory just after I finished my closing prayer. The people really seemed to respond well to the sermon. The message of trusting in God, along with Christ's statement in the Sermon on the Mt. about worry, really strike a chord here. There is a lot of dust here. Everything gets covered with a slight film of it. I have never before found so much "treasure" when I wash behind my ears. I would love to come here in the rainy season. It is green here already. But they say that in the rainy season it is really green. But of course in the rainy season the problem is not dust but mud. I am still praying about what to preach on this afternoon. I think that I will present about diabetes for the health talk, since a man came to me today for prayer who has type 2 diabetes. I wish I knew more. I know what to tell those who are eating American diets how they can help their diabetes. But what about someone who eats an African diet, has the proper body weight, and gets tons of exercise and sunshine? I wish I had more medical knowledge. »
