A damaged power supply in Paulington Studio's audio workstation rendered the studio useless until a replacement power supply was installed.
Not long after Paulington Studio's recent equipment upgrade, lighting damaged the power supply for the workstation. This was discovered Sabbath, May 13, when Adam took a friend out to the studio for some "recreational" recording. When he discovered that the computer didn't work, he called me to come take a look at it. We ended up pulling the power supply apart to discover several fried components. The components had become so hot that a hole was burned completely through the circuit board.
We were concerned that more than just the power supply was also damaged. There was a good possibility that the hard drives, with all our recordings, were also destroyed. The running joke was, that if we lost all our recordings Paulington Studio could adopt a new slogan: "Come for a fresh start at Paulington Studio!"
On Sunday, May 28, I installed a new power supply in the workstation; the unit failed to function. I rechecked the connections, but still nothing. Feeling very concerned, I pulled the workstation out of it's spot in the basement, took it upstairs where there was better lighting, said a prayer, and discovered a silly mistake I had made; I had simply plugged a power connector in wrong. I fixed this and the system booted fine.
We had Paulington Studio back in operation that evening. After mixing a set of songs we've been anxious to finish, we were satisfied that Paulington Studio was back in operation – and thankful to the Lord that this wasn't the time for a fresh start.
