Damage from the Storm
Submitted by Aunt Judy on Mon, 2009-03-02 06:57
How is everybody doing out there? We had quite a bit of excitement here. Two trees are down on our house and one of the limbs came right through our bedroom window! We were very lucky in that Mike noticed the tree in our neighbor's yard was leaning towards the house so we had gathered up all the things we thought we would need, closed the door to the bedroom, and proceded to hunker down downstairs. Soon we heard the loud crash of the tree and breaking glass. Yep, our brand new bedroom window was busted! And there was glass everywhere! We were blessed that Mike noticed the tree (even tho it was after dark) and we were not in the bedroom or close to the window. I may post some pics later. The compressor is right under the tree but was not damaged so when the power came back on at 3 am we had heat. Hope everyone else out there is fine! »

Wow! Glad you all are safe! How much snow did you guys get? We woke up to about 4". What a surprise!
Aunt Judy says:
We only got an inch or two of snow. But it sleeted also, and was very, very windy. There was a constant roar from the wind. So with the wet ground and high winds the trees were pretty easy to topple I guess. Now begins the aggravation of getting in touch with the insurance co. and getting a tree expert out here. Mike thinks they will have to get a crane in here to move the one tree (if it slips it would fall right onto the screened porch). What a mess! But I am so grateful we were not in the bedroom when it happened. I am going out to take some pics in a few minutes and will upload them later. The window damaged was a brand new Pella window just put in about a month ago! But it can be replaced. I am assuming that you guys are okay and other than snow have no major problems?
christopher says:
It's all good here. My sister is visiting from college, so she and Isaiah are outside enjoying the snow. Isaiah is very pleased to have company.

Wow... while we had plenty of snow.. the only problems are from heavy snow on trees... I've been a little concerned about our pine tree out back, it's getting pretty close to some lines....
But, you're lucky, we're all lucky! Keep us posted.
Aunt Judy says:
Well, it has been a long day! Both trees have been removed; the broken window has been boarded up; the big pieces of glass in the bedroom have been removed; and now our side yard is all torn up from the bobcat and other vehicles. The lawn was just worked and reseeded in the fall and had come in very nicely. It is like almost everything we have recently done to the house and yard to improve it was damaged. There will have to be some siding replaced and painting (we just had the house painted a few months ago!), the window will have to be replaced (we just put in two new pella windows in January); some shingles will have to be replaced and now the side yard needs a LOT of work. But neither of us was hurt or killed so I think we came out okay. Someone was watching out for us. I will be busy vacuuming up the glass shards in our bedroom tomorrow. It was agonizing watching them remove the second tree. It took a long time and we were wondering if they knew what they were doing. But they finally got it down. Those guys certainly earn their pay; it is a very dangerous job. I was almost holding my breath at times just watching them. Okay, my saga is ended. Everyone take care!
