Thoughts on the Revelation of Jesus Christ

The last two years I have been studying the book of Revelation.  One of our teachers pointed out that the way we typically study the book is by taking the pieces and looking for their meanings and application often without looking at the immediate context and the way the original audience would have understood it.  Interesting I thought.  So here are some ideas that I have stumbled upon and would like to dialog about.

Has anyone else studied the vast amounts of descriptive names for God used in the Book?

The beginning of chapter one is in the context of Exodus 19.  Compare Revelation 1:5-6 and Exodus 19:4-6.

It seems to be a parallel between the salvation from the Egyptians and the salvation from the slavery of sin and self and Satan.  It is from this context that He calls us His own special people.

A small group of us have been studying Revelation on Friday nights. We have met for months and just gotten through the seven churches, but feel like there is so much more to learn. I'm intrigued by the connection to Exodus 19. I'll bring it up this week and try to spend some time studying it...Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts.  I'm reviewing our notes from those verses in Revelation 1.  We touched on Exodus 19 briefly in one of them.  Here are some relevant questions we asked:

There may be others.  The forum for Revelation 1 is here.

We talked about this some tonight. Too tired to post more now--will share some thoughts later...
