Been looking around at Christian musicians. They're all for sale -- at least if their any good. It seems such a pitty. I heard a fellow on NPR (don't remember who) saying that musicians need to look for money on tour rather than in records. If this is true for the secular sector, and I think it is, why don't we Christians lead the pack by making our recorded material free. Now! Why not? Why maintain a barier to acces?
Now, I have no idea what it's like for an artist to be an artist full time. I have no idea how hard it may be to eek a living... but what if we were to support our artists in their ministry, so that their labor could be delivered for free? I'd like to see more of that happen here.
So my wonderings are, how do we entice others to join our ranks? And how do we support them?
Most of the sites I visited were very artist oriented? This doesn't seem right. What if the artist was just another member of the community, allbeit, with a unique gift? We all have them; why does entertainer get worshipped? Even in church, we worship our entertainers -- and I don't think we're are aware of it. Indeed I catch myself doing it.
How can we lead the way to freeing the gospel through song?
