christopher says:
"I wanted to run something by you," Adam says to me, one day as we're sitting in the studio. "I want to know what you think of this part."
I watch and listen as he pulls up this song on the computer and starts it playing. Very nice, I think to myself, while silently wondering what it may be that Adam needs an opinion on. Then below the guitar and vocal tracks I notice a fourth track titled "lead." Adam's come up with some guitar lead, and he's wondering what I think about it.
As the song continues to play, I mentally prepare to critique Adam's guitar lead.... and then it comes... "Wa, wa, wa,waaa...." Wow! Where did that come from!? I think, as I hear the first loud and unexpected notes of Adam playing the recorder. I couldn't take it. I busted out laughing so hard Adam stopped the transport and started laughing with me.
Amazingly enough, after that first, surprising introduction to Adam on the recorder, I discovered I actually liked the piece -- especially the "wa, wa, wa, waaa..." part which didn't even sound like a recorder. After toning down the part, and removing some very mystical sounding reverb, we both liked it, and Adam decided to leave it in the song.
Good work Adam! Thanks for the surprise.
