In verse 9, John says that he is a brother and companion in tribulation. What is this tribulation?
What is the tribulation?
Jesus says we'll have trouble in this world. John 16:33, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
Tribulation is apparently the lot of those who follow Jesus.
Also Acts 14:22 meantions tribulation as part of continuing in faith: "... we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God." II Corinthians 1:3 and 4 offers some encouragement; it says, "... the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation ..."
I wonder if part of the tribulation isn't the fact that Jesus has taken so long to return to earth. How many generations of people have died expecting... hoping, that Jesus would return in their lifetime?
I think the other part of tribulation is foreign to us today. We aren't particularly dangerous to the forces of evil, so perhaps Satan is content to let us slumber.
